Free OUR Fridays!!!!

Some people, most people, at this point are very sure that we are already in / headed directly towards a recession, if not a depression. Those people may be right, however, what if they are incorrect.
We have a new president, new economic advisers to boot. With such great opportunities just knocking at our door, why not take advantage of them? This situation is going to let you, actually become what ever it was that you wanted to be as a kid. You know, the usual, firefighter, astronaut, tow truck driver. Whatever it may have been, you can now do that because the state of the economy is so good that any career you choose will have security!
In fact, why even go to college, or complete you degree. If you already have some good credit and a little money in the bank why not just take a month or two off and blow some of that savings? That way you can just start all over in a year. Home, BA! who needs a home when you can have a rental? Honestly, education is something of the past. When a country is gifted to have an economy that is as powerful, and as strong as ours, there is really no need for job security. With our stock market being where it is, we have freedom of employment. A power house economy. FREE OUR FRIDAYS!!!! WRITE TO STEPHEN RUFUS.Stephen.Ruffus@slcc.edu>

No Sun on The Horizon

Unfortunately, for us as a whole, as a generation. We are kind of screwed over the last few months the economy has been falling and falling. To points that have not been seen in 16 years in some cases. In this month alone so far we have lost an upward of 16,000 jobs and it is only the 23rd.
However, we must stay optimistic, when you look at the brighter side of the spectrum. At least, we still have the opportunity to choose our career. Which, is a lot better than to have been doing the same job for the last thirty or so years and then just get dumped, canned or something else of that nature. Because, if you were in that situation, you would have so few options or choices even. Fact, of the matter is that we have a choice. The majority of the people who are reading this blog are just barely starting out their college career. That alone gives you the availability to choose. You can do a little research, find out what job will have the best security for you. Then take the classes to achieve you goal.

At the same time you really, need to get the thoughts out of your head that your not going to be able to under any circumstances have a job it is not true. One of the highest unemployment rates in the nation is in the construction field. More often than not the construction industry is employing non-college graduates. So, your putting a good foot forward just by taking the classes that your in right now. So keep you head high, don't look down, and choose your career wisely.

Now

Life has always posed many questions that we are supposed to know the answers to. My personal favorite is "what do you want to be when you grow up?" If I had a nickel for every time some one asked me that as a youth, ha I'd be rich. Point being, you always had an answer fireman, policeman, president, astronaut... so on and so forth. Then, the question became a little bit more serious when it was our high school counselors that asked the same thing, instead it involved the word college.
Now, what I'm asking myself, is "what am I going to do in five years"? Instead of using the word college, I'm using the word RECESSION. I've known what I wanted to do for a living quite some time now, to be a nurse, and the recession hopefully won't hurt the medical field too much. Although it still raises the question. What if the hospitals aren't looking for any new employees?
Over the last few days, I've been walking from class to class and when I get the chance I talk to the people walking around me. The general consensus is that no one really knows how this whole recession thing is going to effect them. Everyone is going to school and getting credits done. But whats next?
